Positing Running For: Ward 1 Councillor

I am running for Midland Town Council because…

I am running for Midland Council for the same reason I am only semi-retired instead of fully retired from nursing. I enjoy the work and the constant challenge both positions offer. It is about knowing when to teach, knowing when to assist and knowing when to listen (which is always in politics) to people as we build for the future. Politician or professional I recognize one fact we are your guest and not your host. You loan us these chairs at the Council table for a period of time and you decide if we should retain them. You through the Ministry of Health allow myself and others to work in your hospitals. I take pride in both positions and that is why I have a vanity plate that states “ETHICSEH” because without that and integrity one cannot successfully accomplish either of these jobs.

My vision for Midland is…

My vision for Midland – It was recently said we have built the foundation in the last few years now it’s time to finish the job. Through economic development, downtown revitalization planning and partnered development of the Midland Bay Landings possibilities, Midland will become a destination, not a jump off point.

I will accomplish this vision by focusing on the following three things…

I will accomplish this vision by focusing on the following three things (well four actually). No matter what the project, you assess the need, you plan for it, you intervene when needed and you evaluate what you have accomplished at each stage.

Describe your top three accomplishments that make you a good candidate for Council. For current or previous members of council, please focus on your top three in that role.

  1. In 1995 I successfully argued to have Launching fees removed from the Ramp at Peterson Park, that’s twenty years of saving for each individual user.
  2. To have been be reelected several times by the residents of Midland for getting the job done.
  3. I have the tenacity to keep fighting against what others consider a done deal when it comes to the discontinuation of the leaf vacuuming that has been provided to you for years. I will keep fighting for this!
