QUESTIONNAIRE RESPONSE
Cher Cunningham
Running For: Councillor Ward 3
I am running for Midland Town Council because…
I feel a sense of responsibility to provide service to this beautiful town that is home to me, my business, my family and my grown children and their families.
I have a strong interest in, and respect for, political process and governance and I believe I have value to contribute.
My vision for Midland is...
A town that maximizes our resources and serves our communities inclusively. A healthy and vibrant community whose policies are informed by the opinions and needs of all, and where everyone feels respected.
I will accomplish this vision by focusing on the following three things:
(a) Making voices heard through a more robust community engagement and public input process—one that also includes an online Dashboard of Projects, with goals, dated updates, backgrounders & research, and a proactive opportunity to communicate in advance and directly with the Project Lead.
(b) Collaborating locally with all levels of government and neighbouring municipalities on strategies for affordable housing, better jobs, increased tourism, and the promotion of our region for economic development and growth.
(c) Taking the time to understand all aspects of data and opinion around the difficult decisions ahead regarding the Unimin lands, Downtown “big-dig,” and leveraging the savings uncovered in the Service Delivery Review.
Describe your top three accomplishments that make you a good candidate for Council. For current or previous members of council, please focus on your top three as a council member:
(a) Hosting Politically Speaking: taught me a great deal about the opportunities and challenges inherent in the role of an elected official and granted me easy familiarity with the issues and questions relevant to our community.
(b) Faculty in the school of Hospitality and Tourism: enabled me to see how key it is for our municipal organizations to participate at a higher level or risk loss of promotion, partnerships and funding.
(c) As Franchise Coach of Eco Insulation: I worked with a team to design and implement a new system of policy, standards, and accountability. I also managed communications, working to ensure both franchise needs and policy mandates were met.
