Positing Running For: Ward 1 Councillor

I am running for Midland Town Council because…

I believe the time to secure Midland’s Future is now. As a councillor, my voice will matter, my vote will count.  I have been active in town organizations like the BIA, Downtown Master Plan, and Midland’s Blue Edge (Now Midland Bay Landing) but I want to do more.

My vision for Midland is…

I envision a safe and thriving community with a robust local economy. By leveraging our location on Georgian Bay, we can appeal to people seeking a healthy, active quality of life, and encourage small and medium businesses to locate and grow in Midland.

I will accomplish this vision by focusing on the following three things…

First, encouraging economic growth – I want to leverage the ideas, partners, and alliances we already have at hand, including the new Economic Development Corporation of North Simcoe, to help ensure Midland thrives.

Second, ensuring fair taxes and good investments – I want us to make the best decisions we can on how and when to spend tax payers dollars.

Third, working with the community – I want to engage with my constituents because we should all have a better voice in how our community is governed.

Describe your top three accomplishments that make you a good candidate for Council. For current or previous members of council, please focus on your top three in that role.

I run a successful, growing business, the Grounded Coffee Company, on the main street of Midland, which is “grounded” in the community through close, cooperative relationships with groups like the GBGH, BIA, Community Living Huronia, Wye Marsh, Huronia Transition Homes, MCC, PSS, MSS, OSPCA, Big Brothers and Sisters, and the Salvation Army.

As a member of the Board of Directors of the BIA, I have helped with the success community efforts like Books2Eat, Ontario’s Best Butter Tart Festival, and the Downtown Facade Improvement Program ($20,000 worth of improvements to date).

I have a warm and loving family that keeps me rooted in what’s important – a safe and thriving community of Midland.
