I am running for Midland Town Council because…
I believe that my experience working as management for the federal and provincial governments and a non-profit tourism organization in an executive planning capacity and working with volunteer marketing boards in central Ontario prepares me to share my expertise on policy and planning, product development, tourism and marketing to benefit Midland’s future. I also understanding Regional Tourism Ontario requirements and this relates to the economic interest for branding the Town of Midland as a place to invest and visit.
My vision for Midland is…
That Midland has reasonable, affordable taxes to support quality services that are important to ratepayers, that Midland encourages entrepreneurship and business growth resulting in jobs, fosters healthy relationships with community groups and is positioned to be economically, environmentally and socially sustainable for today and future generations.
I will accomplish this vision by focusing on the following three things…
(a) Capacity and relationship building with community groups to work collectively with Council on branding Midland as a destination, promoting active transportation, economic development, cultural preservation, etc.
(b) Providing quality services and a planning infrastructure to attract the entrepreneurial & business spirit to our community.
(c) Creating a quality experience on our waterfront with a priority to educate about protection of Georgian Bay, while offering quality tourism experiences.
Describe your top three accomplishments that make you a good candidate for Council. For current or previous members of council, please focus on your top three in that role.
(a) Founding board member for Canada’s 13th Biosphere Reserve, the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve.
(b) Advisor on the Duty to Consult and Accommodate with Serpent River First Nation
(c) Consultant for the Lang Pioneer Village Museum Expansion and Tourism Product Development, Feasibility Study, County of Peterborough
