Running For: Mayor
I am running for Midland Town Council because…
Council and the community will need strong, thoughtful, responsible and responsive leadership to implement projects initiated this past term to guarantee service excellence, enhance citizen engagement, improve communications and prepare for major infrastructure projects. This term I’ll work to reduce closed-door meetings, to measure and report to you on our efficiencies, challenges and successes, and to improve our community and corporate security. Fair, affordable taxes will be balanced with gaps in environmental, economic and social services that contribute to well-being. I am creative, conciliatory, honest, diplomatic and competent.
My vision for Midland is...
A reputation of being a welcoming, flourishing, safe community on a protected Georgian Bay where there are jobs for those who want to work, safe and affordable housing, quality town and county services, and where people feel their tax dollars and voices are respected. I see Council working with town staff to develop a long-term business plan to guide us through budgeting in the years to come.
I pledge to listen, be honest and act with integrity. Together we will work to resolve public safety concerns, housing issues, aging infrastructure and rekindle our Midland Bay Landing project to protect our investment and ensure public access for all.
I will accomplish this vision by focusing on the following three things:
Communication, Economic Development and our Environment
Describe your top three accomplishments that make you a good candidate for Council. For current or previous members of council, please focus on your top three as a council member:
(a) As Chair of Indigenous Relations Committee, we negotiated the first Protocol Agreement with the Beausoleil First Nation. As Chair of Lease Agreement Committee, we negotiated long-overdue partnership/lease agreement with Huronia Museum.
(b) I advocated for and was elected Chair of Human Resource Committee. We developed a new performance evaluation template for our CAO position which is also useful for other department head evaluations, screened prospective Midland Bay Landing Corporation board members and initiated work on succession planning to support Midland Forward.
(c) Council appointed me as a replacement to attend County Council when Mayor/Deputy Mayor were absent.
