QUESTIONNAIRE RESPONSE

Stewart Strathearn
Running For: Mayor

I am running for Midland Town Council because…

I want to provide strong leadership to build on what we have accomplished over the past four years and promote growth and prosperity in our town

My vision for Midland is...

to see Midland prosper once again:  a community that provides value for fair taxes, sustainable jobs, and a sound economy; a complete community where our children and grandchildren grow up and have a clear choice to make Midland home.

I will accomplish this vision by focusing on the following three things:

Providing determined and capable leadership as Mayor, I’ll achieve this vision through:

(a)  Excellent Service / Reasonable Taxes:

  • Holding the line on tax increases at inflation or below while ensuring excellent services
  • Partnering with neighbours to share services and find savings
  • Implementing the Service Delivery Review for a Town Hall that works for you and where employees are proud to work

(b) Growth and Prosperity:

  • Streamlining planning and approval processes
  • Having Midland Bay Landing Development Corporation develop the site and ensure public access to the whole waterfront
  • Supporting the Economic Development Corporation of North Simcoe in bringing good jobs to Midland

 (c) Great Place to Live :

  • Engaging residents in community decisions
  • Implementing a Community Safety Plan involving public inputs, policing, and social and housing supports
  • Creating policy, plans and partnerships for more affordable housing
  • Championing hospital and healthcare services for all residents
  • Supporting the Library mandate and Maker Space

Describe your top three accomplishments that make you a good candidate for Council. For current or previous members of council, please focus on your top three as a council member:

(a) I made and supported the tough decisions on realigning assets and operations to build a solid financial foundation e.g. OPP, MPUC

(b) I championed the Service Delivery Review to create a 21st century, service-oriented Town Hall

(c)  I was instrumental in creating the financial and growth base that enables the new Council to focus on improving community safety and livability for all residents
